Rappel then founded a small hospital with the help of a sheik who had lost three siblings, because of the lack of adequate medical care. They later also opened an orphanage.
Before the war there were 16 hospitals in Yemen. Since hospitals have been among the prime targets of the Saudi-led coalition, now only three are still able to provide -- very limited -- medical care. The hospital founded by Rappel and the sheik is one of those.
Rappel lives in a small place north of Munich. At the beginning of the month, her daughter and two members of her charity gave a talk about the hospital and the latest developments in Yemen at the EineWeltHaus.
A recent radio interview with Aenne Rappel by Norbert Joa (in German).
