Equally worth seeing is the Mangfall river, south of Munich. The German Alpine Club (DAV) recommends Burghardt’s tour along the Mangfall. (Tour no. 35 in the book). I love this hiking tour, because you not only walk along the banks of this fast flowing Alpine river for most of the time, but you also see a different, less showy side of southern Bavaria.
Hamid Zenati was an Algerian artist who lived and worked in Munich. He died last year and the Haus der Kunst now exhibits some of his colourful designs. Zenati’s designs are both bold and pleasing and are infused with the light and colours of Algier. The exhibition of Zenati’s work is for free.
