München ist bunt (Munich is colourful) has been the city's slogan against right wingers ever since Pegida reared its ugly head.
On 6th June the Black Lives Matter demonstration drew more than 25,000 people in Munich and was the biggest such demonstration within Germany. If I'm honest I was surprised, because I would have expected a greater turnout in either Berlin or Hamburg. But despite its image as a staunchly conservative Bavarian capital, Munich is home to a greater number of foreigners than either of the northern metropolises. Foreign influence or presence in this city may be less felt or seen, because Bavarian culture is more clearly defined and thus easier to uphold as the dominating influence. The Black Lives Matter demonstration was a reminder of how international and "colourful" the city has become.
